February 20, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I am one of the organizers and curators, along with Chris Peck, of a performance series called Live Sh–! It is happening this upcoming Saturday. It is going to be a great show. Just check out the people who are performing. Look forward to seeing you there!

LIVE SH– @ The Chocolate Factory in LIC

This Saturday 2/24/07 @ 10 PM

An intermittent after hours performance party organized or “curated” by Chase Granoff and Chris Peck with cheap drinks and chocolate.

DANCE———————————————————->Daniel Linehan

Daniel Linehan is a dance artist from Seattle, now living in Brooklyn. His work has been presented in Seattle, Montreal, Philadelphia, and multiple venues in New York. In a solo version of his work Human Content Pile, Linehan embraces and utterly re-imagines the most superficial layers of dance: virtuosity and athleticism, rhythm and musicality, formula and appearance, inertia and nausea. Working within his hyper-privileged status, Linehan strips away the possibility of his own agency and submits himself to a quasi-spiritual, semi-masochistic ritual-spectacle. He adopts a queer notion as to how the trivial aspects of his dance operate significantly in the realm of subconscious pattern and pre-linguistic experience.

VIDEO———————————————————->Treva Wurmfeld

Treva Wurmfeld teams up with choreographer and performance artist, Charlotte Gibbons of EagleAger, for this short video about a key in Bushwick that doesn’t fit any lock and looks a little like a duck. Treva Wurmfeld is a writer/director/video artist from New York City. Hunter College served her well for both her BA and MFA degrees. For the past two years, she has been documenting dancers in Brooklyn, now she is in progress on a number of film projects with subjects ranging from Artificial Hearts, to Oysters, to Paul Revere.

MUSIC———————————————————->Mike Pride

Mike Pride’s Drummer’s Corpse: An extended (serialized & otherwise) composition for 7 drummers, electric guitar, keyboards, screaming vocals and movement “in which a bunch of progressive wierdos bang around on a room full of drumkits”. – Time Out NY. Think Xenakis writing for the Swans, while Messiean’s organ works play in another room. Featuring: Mike Pride (floor tom, vocals, keyboard); El Teresa (dance/interrogation) Chris Welcome (guitar); Fritz Welch, Johnny McLellan, Jeff Arnal & more (drums).

mad scientist as fashion designer

February 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Hussein Chalayan is a wonderful experimental fashion designer. He is using some very current and advanced technology to make wonderful, elegant and just plain inventive clothing. I recently watched some of his fashion shows on Youtube and Google video and was sucked into the strangely beautiful worlds he is creating through the presentation and showings of his clothing.

Both of these blogs were discovered via Momus and his blog Click opera.

Hot Knives a great food blog with delicious recipes and awesome beer suggestions.

Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction is a great Philly site, blog and online store. They have been covering the show Locally Localized Gravity at the ICA in Philly.

are about to open a new show at Elizabeth Dee Gallery in NYC. The opening is Febuarary 17th from 6-8pm.

Yesterday, I picked up the new issue of ANP Quarterly, a great free large format magazine. I discovered the first issue randomly at the store Nom de Guerre (an awesome store with beautiful clothes) and have ever since been on the lookout for new issues. To get an idea of what goes on inside the magazine check out their fairly new blog.
